So, I have finally decided to start a blog about my beautiful baby girl, Kaylie Rae. I guess in this first blog, I will just start from the beginning. On January 16, 2009, our lives changed when I peed on a little $1 stick from the dollar store. I don't even know why I did it, I had no reason to think I was pregnant, we weren't trying, and I had no symptoms what so ever! But, hey, it was only a dollar....I didn't even know they made $1 pregnancy tests...so I bought one for the fun of it. I didn't even tell Jason, I knew it would be negative, just like every other pregnancy test I had taken in my life. He was in the living room playing video games and I was in our bathroom about to rock our world. As I watched the stick turn colors, I saw 2 lines appear where there had always been only 1. I did a double....make that a triple...take. I thought "this can't be right", stupid Dollar Store pregnancy test can't be right!!! As the realization hit me, my hands started shaking and I had this smile that I couldn't get control of. I walked slowly into the living room where Jason was and said "I just took a pregnancy test and it's positive"....I couldn't even say the words "I'm pregnant". He now had an uncontrollable grin on his face as he said "What?!?! Are you serious?" I explained how I had bought the pregnancy test for $1 from the Dollar Store because it was only a dollar and he said can we really trust this $1 test and I mean it was only a dollar how accurate could it be, and, well you get the point. We were very hung up on the fact that it was only a $1 and couldn't be right. So, we decided we need to spend some serious money for a serious pregnancy test. We had plans already to go to our friends, Laura and Jason's house. We thought we would just buy one on the way, but thought it might be a little awkward to just disappear to the bathroom together as soon as we got there, so we shared our little secret with them. They were so excited, and being the wonderful friends they are, welcomed us to take another test there. They just happened to have a pregnancy test actually, so we didn't even have to buy another one! Unfortunately, it was a fancy, high tech digital one, and apparently I didn't do it right, so it just read "error". Are you kidding? Do you know how torturous it is to get an "error" when you have just spent the last 30 minutes waiting to take another test to confirm that you are in fact pregnant? So, we told them we were going to have to go to the store and get another one and we simply could not wait. So, off to the store we went, where we bought 3 more tests....just to be sure! We got back and took ALL 3 TESTS....once again, just to be sure! Positive, positive, and another positive...now we had 4 positive tests....alright, I think we can confirm, I'M PREGNANT!! So, we shared the wonderful news with them and decided we just couldn't wait to tell some people. So, we called my parents, his parents and a few other close friends. I was going to try to wait to tell everyone, but I couldn't hold it in...by the next day, all of Facebook knew!! We were pregnant! Our little bundle would be due September 17, 2009 (which happened to be my Mimi's birthday) So, the first few months of pregnancy were exciting, but also a little slow and boring....then on May 1, 2009, we found out we were having a little girl! After Jason got over the initial shock (he really thought it was going to be a boy and was scared to death of having a little girl), he was ecstatic and so was I! Immediately we started planning names, buying clothes, looking at nursery stuff....it was so exciting to put a name and gender on this wonderful creature who was growing in my belly. The next few months went by so fast, I think my head was spinning. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. I had to check my blood sugars 4 times a day, and watch very carefully everything I ate. Side note: I lost a lot of wait on this special diet, when I went in to the hospital to have Kaylie, I weighed 5 pounds less than when I got pregnant, how many people can say that? Ha! So, anyways, because of my GD, my doctor did not want me to go too far past my due date. So, she planned an induction if I didn't have her naturally by then (which of course I didn't).
My doctor couldn't do it on my due date because she was getting braces!! Sad that she wouldn't share a birthday with Mimi. But we did go in for induction the next morning! At 5:30 am on Friday, September 18, I checked in at Baptist Hospital for my induction. They put me in a waiting room and actually forgot about me!! So, I didn't get into a room until 8:00....2 hours behind schedule. I started the day barely dilated and 0% effaced. I had 2 rounds of a cervix softener before starting the Pitocin at about 4:00. I was not progressing much at all. I was having some contractions, but apparently they weren't getting me anywhere. They came in a broke my water at about 6:00 (these times could be completely off, it's all a little hazy now). That's when the contractions really started coming. By 9:00, I was only 3 cm dilated and barely softening. So, they sent everyone home for the night! Said baby wouldn't be here until sometime the next day. Contractions were getting stronger, so they did go ahead and give me the epidural. I rested and tried to get a little sleep. My epidural wasn't taking well on one side of my body. I had an extra injection and then was able to rest. At about 11:00 I went into the most horrible pain I have ever been in....constant, not contractions a few minutes apart, no release, CONSTANT!! I was shaking, telling Jason "I can't do this" (by the way, Jason was INCREDIBLE at the hospital, I truly don't know that I could have made it through without him!). I called in the anesthesiologist and got another "dose"....still didn't help...so they gave me one more "dose"....finally, some relief!! At this point, I couldn't feel ANYTHING!! Haha! So I fell asleep FINALLY, then at about 12:00 several nurses came rushing in and told me to roll over, they were checking monitors and just really looked concerned. They checked me (later I would find out that they were actually pulling the cord from around the babies neck, which is why they rushed in) and said "You are complete! This baby is ready!".....so that was what all the pain was about! I went for 3cm to 10cm in about 45 minutes....ouch! So, they had to call the doctor back in who was at home asleep! I had to call my parents back in who were also at home asleep! Luckily, everyone made it back in time! The doctor let me "labor down" for a bit before she came in for me to push. She wanted to let my body to naturally do a lot of the work, so that I wouldn't have to push so long. When she finally came in for me to push, our baby was already crowning! After a couple of failed attempts due to having no feeling and therefore no control in my legs, I finally got my feet in the stirrups. I pushed for maybe 20 minutes or so...and I'm sorry for all of you that have had a hard time with this part, because this was the EASIEST part for me!! I still couldn't feel ANYTHING and Kaylie was so close already that I didn't even break a sweat as she came out. At 2:05 am on Saturday, September 19, 2010, I gave birth to the most beautiful and amazing 7lb 5oz, 20 1/4 inch long baby girl in the whole world...and her name is Kaylie Rae.

(Since this is probably the longest blog post ever, and I am tired and I'm sure you are bored, I will continue with what we have been up to these past 6 months and some pictures tomorrow)
Good Night :)
